The Fujian people living in Canada are one of the largest group in the Chinese community in Canada. At present, there are more than 100,000 Fujian people involved in various industries, especially in supermarkets, restaurants, construction, trade and others. It has become very important part of Canadian Chinese community. There are many associations in Fujian community in Canada, but they are weak. Therefore, it has bacame the consensus of Fujian community in Canada to set up a large-scale organization inFujian community in Canada by integrating the resources of various Fujian associations.This organization play the important role to promote Canada multiculture and social progress.
Most of the Fujian associations in theGreater Toronto Area agreed to establishthe Canadian Federation of Fujian Associations by election. On March 10, 2010, more than 40 representatives from 18 Fujian associations and some reporters held a meeting at 3100 Steel Avenue. The associations unanimously agreed to establish the “Canada Federation of Fujian Associations” and officially named them.At that time, 16 associations announced that they joined Canada Federation of Fujian Associations and became the first members. So far, the Canadian Federation of Fujian Associations has officially announced its establishment.
The Canadian Federation of Fujian Associations is a non-profit organization .In 2019, after nine years of development it become a community of 24 Fujian associations with more than 50,000 members. It will play an important role in uniting Fujian diaspora, promoting their integration into local society in workingand life, enhancing Canada multiculture, promoting Sino-Canadian trade and cultural exchanges, and promoting the reunification of the motherland. It has made great contributions to strengthening friendship between Canada and China, especially between Fujian and Canada.
